Obituary

James C. Foley, 93, of New Bedford died Tuesday September 21, 2004 at Sacred Heart Home. He was the husband of the late Alice E. (Piotrowski) Foley.

Born in Argentia, Newfoundland, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Cooney) Foley, he had lived in New Bedford since 1917.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

Mr. Foley was employed by the New Bedford Fire Department for 30 years before retiring in 1969 with the rank of lieutenant.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a recipient of the Asisatic-Pacific Theater medal with one star, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater medal with one star, the American Theater medal, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

He loved fishing, boating and playing cards. He will be remembered for his endless sense of humor and his love of life and his family.

Survivors include two sons, James C. Foley, Jr. of New Bedford, and Dennis M. Foley, and his wife Carol, of Dartmouth; a daughter, Maureen P. Arruda, and her husband Paul, of New Bedford; two brothers, John Foley, and his wife Luella, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Ronald Foley, and his wife Barbara, of Fairhaven; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Foley of New Bedford; four grandchildren, Paul Joseph Arruda, Kelley Arruda, Maureen Cote, and her husband Matthew, and Justine Dore, and her husband Norman; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Cote and Matthew Dore; and many nieces and nephews, especially Cathy A. Pelletier of Assonet, John Cleveland of Freetown, and Bradford Cleveland of New Bedford, who were instrumental in his care.

He was the brother of the late Genevieve Foley, Thomas Foley, Stanley Foley, Florence Hoffmann, and Mary Cleveland.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordFriday September 24, 2004 at 8 AMFuneral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Tarkiln Hill Rd., at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday September 23, 2004 from 5-8 PM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
