Adele (Gula) Sherman, 85, of New Bedford died October 22, 2013 unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford the daughter of the late Jan and Mary (Skawienski) Gula, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Adele was formerly employed as a teller at BayBank for many years until her retirement.
She was an active member of the YMCA. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and travel. Adele was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1946.
Survivors include 4 sons, Dennis Sherman of New Bedford, Alan Sherman and his fiancée Mary Kellogg and William Sherman and his companion Denise Gaudiello, all of Fairhaven, and Mark Sherman and his wife Joanne of Carver; 4 daughters, Michele Hoggatt and her husband Philip of Dripping Springs, TX, Deborah Field and her husband Brad of Westport, Sharon Power and her husband Michael of Fairhaven and Sheila Pereira and her husband Michael of Dartmouth; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the grandmother of the late Sgt. Benjamin William Sherman, the great-grandmother of the late Caleb Santos and the sister of the late John and Mitchell Gula and Veronica Bumpus.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Saturday, October 26th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, October 25th from 4-7 PM.
