SAUGUS: Sandra S. (Putaansuu) Mason, 67, formerly of Gloucester, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Salem Hospital. She was the wife of Robert T. “Zeke” Mason.
Born in Gloucester on October 15, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Onni “Pete” Putaansuu and Mildred E. (Williams) Garland.
Sandy worked locally for many years as a phlebotomist. Most recently, she was employed as a medical biller for Sports Medicine North and thoroughly enjoyed her job.
She had a unique, fun sense of humor, loved to cook and enjoyed road trips, especially to Foxwoods. One of her greatest passions was watching the Red Sox with “Harry.” She adored her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband and best friend of twenty years, she is survived by her children, Amy, wife of Timothy Gallagher, Michele, wife of Darin Strong, Anthony Milne, Rebecca, wife of John Girard and Edwin, husband of Katherine Searle; grandchildren, Marissa, wife of Nick Curcuru, Kali Maltese, Ryann Maltese, Shannon Gallagher, Christopher Spoon, Tia Strong, Rebecka Strong, Zachary Milne and Zoe Milne; her brother, Michael Putaansuu; mother-in-law, Rita Mason, special godchild, Alise Burgess; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlo and Sharon Mason, Robin and Barry Babbins, Gayle and Scott Sawyer, Mary Poole; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and many dear friends. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Kevin Putaansuu, father-in-law, Arnold “Arnie” Mason and grandson, Timothy Gallagher, Jr.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 7 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
