West Bridgewater - James L. Grandfield, 81, of West Bridgewater died Sunday at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Alice M. (Sherman) Grandfield and the late Nellie (Morrison) Grandfield.
Born Dec. 12, 1922, in Somerset, he was a son of the late John A. and Anne Marie (Donohue) Grandfield.
Raised in Somerset, he was a graduate of Coyle High School in Taunton and had lived in West Bridgewater since 1966.
Mr. Grandfield also attended Tufts University.
He worked at New England Telephone Company for 38 years.
Mr. Grandfield was a pilot with the U.S. Air Force and served during Word War II and Korean War.
He had a love for books and his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John Grandfield of Suffield, Conn., Ellen Snow of West Bridgewater, Madeline “Nina” Grandfield of Richmond, Va., and Brian Grandfield of New York City; his grandchildren, AnneMarie Shagoury, Lisa Rosconi, Jennifer Dormer, James Lauther and Megan Freed and six great-grandchildren. He was father to the late Elizabeth “Betty” Grandfield.
His funeral Mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Arrangements by Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater.
