Richard P. “Deacs” Burke, 78, of Abington, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday October 17th. He was the husband of the late Ann Marie (Marr) Burke and the late Claire A. (Griggs) Burke.
“Deacs” was born in Cambridge, brought up in South Boston, son of the late John and Helen (McGrail) Burke. He has been a resident of Abington for 50 years. He retired from Burke Distributing.
“Deacs” was a member of St. Bridget Church, the K of C in Abington and the Teamsters Local #653.
“Deacs” greatest joys were his grandchildren and he was their number 1 fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at Hampton Beach and coaching youth sports in Abington.
He is survived by his children Karen Kristiansen and her husband Kenneth of Abington, Richard Burke and Daniel Burke both of Boston, Linda Wheeler and her husband James of Hanover, Patricia Burke of Rockland, John Burke and his wife Laura of Hanson; his siblings Robert Burke of Abington, Michael Burke and his wife Denise of Rockland, Sister Maureen Elizabeth S.C.H. of New York. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John Burke and Maureen Flynn.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend his funeral service on Tuesday October 22nd at 10:00AM in the Blanchard funeral Chapel, Plymouth St (Rte 58 @ the rotary circle) Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. His visitation will be on Monday October 21st from 5:00-8:00PM.
