PARRISH, FL: Duncan McEwan Cairnie, 86, retired Andover Police Officer, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his home. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverly Ann (Bixby) Cairnie in January of 2004.
Born in Andover on January 12, 1927, he was the son of the late Duncan M. and Jean (Webster) Cairnie. He was a graduate of Punchard High School. Duncan relocated to Florida in 1971 after his retirement from the Andover Police Department. He was the longest living Town of Andover employee.
Duncan proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was also a member of the Coast Guard Reserve. He was past president of the Town Employer Association and the Andover Police Officer's Association.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Masonic Lodge in Andover, lifetime member of the D.A.V. and past chief of Clan Johnson. While living in Florida he was a member of the Sahib Shriner's Temple in Sarasota and attended Bayside Community Church in Bradenton. Duncan was an avid sports enthusiast and in his younger years enjoyed golfing. He relished the time he spent with his family and they will always cherish the good times in their hearts.
He is survived by his three sons, Douglas S. Cairnie and his wife, Susan of Methuen, Bradford A. Cairnie of Bradenton, FL. and Bruce W. Cairnie and his wife, Dana of Parrish, FL; one daughter, Deborah J. Douglass of Andover; seven granddaughters; three grandsons; several great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his two sisters, Jane M. Davideit and Webster "Esther" McAllister; two brothers-in-law, Roger Davideit and Harold McAllister.
A funeral service will held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main St., Andover at 10 AM. Visiting hours were held on Friday, October 18, 2013, in the funeral home from 4 to 7 PM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance.
