Gilbert “Candy Man” Cabral Sr., age 81 of Fall River, passed away Oct. 13, 2013 at home. He was the beloved husband of Olivia (Farias) Cabral and the son of the late Emmanuel and Genevieve (Cabral) Cabral. Prior to retiring, Gil worked for Ray’s Flower Shop as a delivery driver. He previously worked for Cyrono Realty, Arruda Construction, & River Edge Mfg., and Beetle Plastics. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War, a parishioner of the former Our Lady of the Angels Church, loved gardening, wood working, traveling, trips to the casinos, the Red Sox, and making his own wine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Maria Pavao (husband Kim James) of Somerset, Olivia Stratton (husband Charles) of Fall River, Genevieve Costa (husband Adelino) of Fall River, Georgianna Ouellette (husband Paul) of Somerset, and Gilbert Cabral, Jr. (wife Susan) of Tiverton; siblings: Gilda Carter of Portsmouth, RI, Janice Miranda of E. Falmouth, MA; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and his cat: “Babee”. He was the brother of the late Joseph and Julius Cabral.
Following cremation, a wake will be held on WEDNESDAY October 23 from 10 A.M.-12 noon, with a Memorial Service to follow in the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. www.rogersfuneral.com.
