TEWKSBURY - Richard W. “Dick” Mazzoni, age 87, died Sunday, October 13, at Lowell General Hospital, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband for 47 years of Janice A. (Parziale) Mazzoni, who died last January.
Richard was born in Boston, February 3, 1926, a son of the late Joseph and Mildred (Penta) Mazzoni, and was raised in Boston’s North End and West End. He lived in Tewksbury for the past 46 years.
Dick served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, as a Gunner on various merchant ships. He was proud to have sailed on each of the world’s seven seas. He maintained his WWII friendships through his association with the Armed Guard Association.
He worked as a Union Carpenter for Local 40 in Boston, and later formed his own business as a carpenter. Dick also served the Town of Tewksbury as an Auxiliary Police Officer.
The Mazzoni family were members of the St. William’s Parish Community.
He is survived by five children, Tamia Porter and her husband Wayne of Rollinsford, NH, Walter Mazzoni and his wife Barbara (White) Mazzoni of Londonderry, NH, Isla Anderson and her husband Scott of Pelham, NH, Delsie Holley and her husband Steven of Orlando, FL, Jolie Galka and her husband David of Apex, NC; nine grandchildren, Amanda and Jason Porter, Emily, Olivia, and Benjamin Mazzoni, Samantha Gannon and Mark Anderson, Beau, and Richard Hannon; one great grandson, Rory; several nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his son Mark Mazzoni in 1972.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Oct. 18, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial with Navy honors followed in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to Merrimack Valley Elder Services, 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843 or a Veteran's Organization of your choice.
