William C. McHugh, Jr., 61, of Gladstone Street, a tool maker for Pruffer Metals before retiring, died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Allen) McHugh.
Born in Providence, he was a son of Ann (Lynch) McHugh of Scituate and the late William C. McHugh, Sr. He had lived in Smithfield for many years. He served in the US Marines during Vietnam.
He had also worked at RI Precision Tool. He volunteered at RI Veteran’s Home in Bristol. He was a 40 year member of the Smithfield Lodge of Elks, #2359 , where he was involved with the Big Brothers Fishing Derby. He was affiliated with the Greystone Social club and had been a volunteer fireman for the Johnston Fire Department. He was someone who quietly lent a hand to those in need, particularly his fellow Elks and members of the Greystone Social Club and those suffering from addiction.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by his sister: Mary Carocci and her husband, Peter of South Kingstown, his nieces and nephew: Lisa Rainey, Kristina Macedo, Todd Carocci and the late Peter Carocci, Jr. and a great niece and two great nephews . He also leaves his dog Ruby and his cats, Andy, Barney, Princess and Max
His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:30am in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
