Alfred J. Chandler, 89

Dateline: Wrentham, MA

Alfred J. Chandler, age 89, a resident of Wrentham for the past 52 years, passed away on Friday October 4, 2013 at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the devoted husband of Mary R. (Cazzarini) Chandler to whom he was wed for 59 years.
Born in Attleboro, MA on January 2, 1924, he was a loving son of the late Alcide L. and Catherine E. (Houlihan) Chandler.
He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1942 and proudly served his country as a Medic in the United States Army during WWII. Upon being honorably discharged from the service and with the help of the GI Bill, he was able to further his education and graduate from Burdett College with a degree in accounting.
Mr. Chandler worked at the Foxboro Company for more than 30 years, rising to the rank of Order Editor. He later began a second career as a handyman for 20 years working mostly in Marshfield.
Alfred was known by various nicknames including; “Hap”, “Brud”, “Al” and “Brother”. He entertained himself with bowling, golf, fishing as well as building scenery for stage productions performed by the Kingwood Players, the Norton Singers and the Chaminade Opera Group.
In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Pauline E. Brennan-Chandler of West Bridgewater. He was the dear brother of Patricia A. O’Malley and her husband Richard of Mansfield, John A. Chandler of Westerly, RI, Thomas A. Chandler and his wife Sarah of Walpole and the late Catherine R. Washburn and Eleanor M. Hoogerzeil. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, October 8th at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 7th from 3:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Alfred’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215. Care of Leukemia Research/Dr. Daniel DeAngelo.
