Obituary

TAUNTON – Joseph A. Peixoto, 62, died of ALS at his Taunton home in the loving care of his longtime friend and fiancée, Patricia Giroux on Sept. 29, 2013.

Born in Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio and Bernardette (Aguiar) Peixoto.

A Taunton resident since 1959, Joe was a 1968 graduate of Taunton High School.
He was a proud citizen of the United States of America, and was proud to receive his Certificate of Naturalization from the Department of Justice in April 1990, signed by Marc Santos, Clerk of the Superior Court.

Joe had a strong, dedicated work ethic.
He enjoyed a thirty-year career as the owner of Taunton’s Oakland Variety on Tremont St., before retiring in 2010.
He began his retail management career at Fernandes Supermarket, previously in Norton before graduating high school, eventually becoming Produce Manager.

In his spare time, Joe liked visiting casinos where he played Black Jack and Video Poker.
He was an avid sports fan, and liked traveling with Patricia and friends.
He enjoyed dining at the Bella Roma Restaurant in the city.
In his younger years, Joe competed in duckpin bowling and captured the top Capeway Bowl awards in 1972.
Along with Patricia, he leaves three sisters, Maria Lourdes Amaral, Maria Bernadette Laranjo and Antonieta Reis, all of Taunton; two nieces, Elizabeth Demaral of Raynham, and Susan Toolin of Dighton; four nephews, Joseph Amaral and Arthur and Stephen Laranjo, all of Taunton; and John Reis of Berkley.
He is survived by his special Godparents, Manuel and Maria Peixoto of Taunton.
His great nieces and nephews include Vanessa Demaral, Angela Demaral, Ryan Demaral, and Tyler Demaral of Raynham; Kevin Toolin and Brian Toolin of Dighton; Kristina Laranjo, Bethany Laranjo, Matthew Laranjo, and Rosemary Laranjo of Taunton; Avery Laranjo and Nina Laranjo also of Taunton; John Reis and Joey Reis of Berkley.
In addition to his family, Joe leaves behind many friends and acquaintances throughout the city.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, Oct. 7th at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony’s Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct 6th from 5 to 8 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SHARE Foundation, Inc., which provided Joe with the means to communicate when he could no longer speak and write.
