Derek Anthony Gonsalves, 39, of New Bedford died March 9th 2002 unexpectedly at Leominster Hospital.
He was the husband of Gaylynne (Ganeto) Gonsalves, and son of Alana "Lanny" Andrews and Alan Barros, both of New Bedford.
Born in New Bedford, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Gonsalves was formerly employed by Roberts Commercial Construction.
He attended New Bedford Vocational High School and served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife and parents; his stepfather, Morris Andrews of Stoughton; his stepmother, Jane Barros of New Bedford; 2 sons, Blake Gonsalves of California and Canaan Gonsalves of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Shalene Gonsalves of New Bedford, Britany Higgins of Falmouth, and Phantasia Monteiro of Hyannis; a stepdaughter, Shai-Larae Barboza of New Bedford; 8 brothers, Glenn Andrews of Wareham, Morris Andrews of Falmouth, and Michael A. Andrews, John Barros, Alan Barros, David Andrews, Kevin Andrews and Michael Andrews, all of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Dawn Andrews, Ericka Andrews, Jude Pina, and Cheryl Andrews, all of New Bedford; his grandmothers, Agnes "Kay" Fortes and Josephine Carter, both of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was the grandson of the late Antone "Sonny" Fortes and William "Bill" Carter.
