John Robert Conner, Jr., 64, of Tifton died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Wallace Willis and Rev. Paul Thomas will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Corey Ford, Christopher Ford, Stewart Cook, Randall Mathis, Casey Marshall and Chris Bromlow will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Conner was born on September 2, 1949 in Tifton and was the son of John Robert Conner, Sr. and Ida Mae Montgomery Conner, both deceased. He was retired from the City of Tifton as a warehouse attendant and was also retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service, including serving in the infantry in Korea and Germany. He was a drill sergeant at NCO School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Fort Benning, Georgia.
Mr. Conner is survived by his wife, Kaye Latham Conner of Tifton; one son, Brenton J. Conner of Ty Ty; one daughter, Lita Michelle Spillers of Ty Ty; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Lee Hall of Tifton and Debra Mae and Larry Brown of Enigma; three grandchildren, Beau Spillers, Seth Spillers and Lyra Edwards; an uncle, Ted Conner; an aunt, Eleanor Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
