Worcester - Fred T. Brierly Jr., 93, of Worcester, passed away at the Lifecare Center of Auburn on October 1, 2013.
Mr. Brierly was born in Worcester, on January 6, 1920 son of the late Fred Brierly Sr. and Albertine (Riopel) Brierly.
He was educated in the Worcester Public Schools and graduated from South High School in 1937. He subsequently attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and also received his Masters Degree from Assumption College in Worcester.
He married Jean Ann (Kazanowicz) Brierly at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church 1942. Together they raised their two children, Fred III and Kurt. Mr. Brierly served in the U.S. Army until 1946. Fred was a disabled veteran who served in the Battle of the Bulge.
After he was honorably discharged, he returned home and began a diverse work career at various firms in the Worcester area. Fred worked for Reed & Prince Co., Reed and Prentis, U.S. Steel as a metallurgist and for the City of Worcester as a planner.
Mr. Brierly retired from David Prouty High School in Spencer where he was a well-respected teacher for several years. After he retired Fred enjoyed, hikes with “Ma”, the beach, gardening, reading and being with his friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Jean, a younger brother, John and an older sister, Helen Murphy as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Brierly leaves behind 2 sons, Fred Brierly III and his wife Katherine of Rochdale and Kurt F. Brierly of Oakham; 2 grandchildren, Kurt Brierly Jr. of Newburyport, MA and Derek Brierly of Holden; 3 great grandsons of whom he was so proud, Nicholas Duffy of Worcester and Nathan and Adam Brierly of Holden.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Wilfred E. Pitts and the staff of the Lifecare Center of Auburn for the loving care that was given to their father.
Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester is directing arrangements. Private burial services are being held in Saint John’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mr. Brierly may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
