New Bedford - Joao Virgilio Lopes, 94, of New Bedford, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at St. Lukes Hospital. He was the husband of Maria da Luz (dosReis) Lopes. Mr. Lopes is survived by a son: Virgilio Joao Lopes of New Bedford, four daughters: Idalina, Albertina and Maria Lopes all of Portugal and Zelinda dosReis of New Bedford. Mr. Lopes had several grand and great grand children.
Mr.Lopes was born in Cape Verde Islands and lived in this area for the past 15 years. He was the son of the late Virgilio Joao Lopes and Berta Lopes. Mr. Lopes was formerly a carpenter.
His funeral will be Friday, September 17, 2004 from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 10 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11 A.M. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, MA. Visiting hours are Thursday, September 16, 2004 from 7 - 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
