Obituary

Corporal Gustaf E. “ GUS “ Carlson, WWII Veteran, United States Army and lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away at home surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years and children on October 1, 2013. He was 85 years old and the beloved husband of Mrs. Virginia ( Hood ) Carlson. He is survived by his children, Eric R. “RICK” Carlson and his wife Anne of Wareham, Steven G. Carlson of Falmouth and Scott D. Carlson of Stoughton. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Cassie Carlson, Jessica Carlson, Cory – Lynn Carlson, Leah Carlson, Robert Carlson, Steven Carlson Jr., Stephen Harrison, Scott Harrison, his loving sister Aina M. ( Carlson ) McMann of Stoughton and his daughter – in – law Jill Carlson.
Born May 31, 1928 in Stoughton,Massachusetts he a son to the late Gustaf W. Carlson and Anna C. (Ericson ) Carlson. He attended Stoughton Public Schools and was a 1943 graduate of Stoughton High School. He also attended Northeastern University and received his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed as an Electrical Salesman for several Massachusetts electrical companies for most of his working life. He was also employed as a Volunteer Firefighter for the Town of Stoughton for over 10 years.
Mr. Carlson proudly served his country and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1948. He had the distinction of being a selected member of the Company B , 3rd Engineer Training Battalion which was chosen on several occasions to be one of the model companies in military service.
Gus’s hobbies included a true passion for the sport of golf, gardening and cooking with his grandchildren. He was also an avid sports fan. He was involved with Cub Scouts and was also a former coach in STOYAC and Stoughton Little League. Brother Carlson was a fifty year medal recipient and a Master Mason of both the Rising Star Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Mount Zion Royal Arch Chapter. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday October 3, 2013 from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. NOTE: A MASONIC FUNERAL RITUAL WILL BE HELD AT 7:30 P.M. His funeral service will be held on Friday October 4, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. The Rev. Dr. Gordon Postill, officiating. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
