Obituary

Salem, NH – Joseph E. Mawson, 86, of Salem, NH, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He is the beloved husband of Elizabeth J. (Berndtson) Mawson, to whom he was married for 63 years.

Born in Lawrence on December 15, 1926, Joe was the son of the late Erwin J. and Catherine (Walsh) Mawson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Hogan DMS 6. He worked as a general manager with Delaware Valley Corporation in Lawrence for 38 years until his retirement.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed woodworking and spending time on his swing in the backyard, feeding the squirrels. He also loved spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joe will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty; 2 daughters, Jane E. Toohey and her husband, James M. of Bedford, NH and Teresa M. Therrien and her husband, Joseph U. of Freemont, NH; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Shearer of Hooksett, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Joe's life by gathering for calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 4-8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, October 3 at 11 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Road, Salem. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem.
