John Ed Cowan, 66, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Mr. Cowan was born May 3, 1947 in Ben Hill County, Georgia. He was a 1965 graduate of Fitzgerald High School. He served his country honorably in the Georgia National Guard. He had a career in telecommunications that spanned 44 years. After retiring from Alltel, formerly General Telephone, Mr. Cowan did contract work for Libla Communications, Gordon Palmgren Construction and Fail Engineering. He was an avid fisherman who loved farming and raising goats. Mr. Cowan especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Sturgeon Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Helen Cleghorn Cowan of Fitzgerald; a son: John Edwin “Eddie” Cowan, Jr. and his wife Leona of Millbrook, Alabama; a daughter: Malinda Cowan of Fitzgerald; and four grandchildren: Cody Cowan, Nick Cowan, Briána Cowan and Chandler Cowan.
