Robert O. Shepard, age 69, of Mansfield passed away peacefully, in the presence of his adoring family on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie L. (Eckhart) Shepard, to whom he was wed on June 29, 1991.
Born in Revere, MA on October 24, 1943, he was a loving son of the late Edward O. and Ann (Kaser) Shepard.
Bob grew up and was educated in Chelsea. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army. His primary duties were those working as a Helicopter Mechanic, prior to being honorably discharged.
Mr. Shepard was the former owner of KARPET KLEEN, a company which today is still operated by his son. He had also most recently been employed at Trans Courier Systems in Brockton and Silver City Courier Service in Taunton.
Bob had made his home on Mansfield for the past 20 years and previously resided in Abington and Weymouth.. He enjoyed the great outdoors, which included fishing, camping, gardening and a good game of horseshoes; however his favorite times spent were still those with his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 22 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Kelly A. Chaplain and her husband Arthur of Stoughton, Janelle M. Farrell of Mansfield, Earl R. Chartier, III and his wife Erin of Norton, and Melissa A. Shepard of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Clare M. Husvar and her husband Joe of Maine and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Adriana M. Farrell, Vanessa L. Farrell, Karli J. Chartier, and Bryson R. Chartier, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, October 2nd at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
