William Blodgett, 72, of Salem, NH passed after a short illness. He leaves his wife and best friend Patricia (Marsland) Blodgett, three children, daughter April Blodgett and son in law Vincent Ryan of Arlington, MA; daughter Allison Blodgett of Worcester, MA; a son Christopher and daughter in law Trish Rich Blodgett in Jasper, GA; a sister Peg Razzaboni and brother in law Frank Razzaboni of Salem; a brother Joseph Blodgett and sister in law Diana Blodgett of Derry, NH; four grandchildren, Nathan, Nehemiah, Nikoli, and Nevaeh in Jasper, GA; deceased brother George Blodgett of South Carolina; a sister in law Donna Blodgett, wife of the late Robert Blodgett; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was a salesperson for twenty years at Dodge Grain in Salem, a driver for many years with JWM, and recently retired from Estes Express in Methuen, MA. His friends knew that he referred to chopping wood, volunteering at a local food pantry, and snow blowing after (and sometimes during) a blizzard, as “leisure time”.
Little things in life made Bill smile – breakfast in a diner on the way to the antique truck show with Joe, Jack, and Frank, making toast on his camping toaster, finding gasoline under $3.50, the smell of the first snow in the air, home-brewed coffee in diner-china mugs, helping friends, making his cat purr, all things truck-related, and seeing his children drive up. Bill had an ability to repair all things mechanical, from 53-foot tractor trailers to jelly donut-making machines, and as recently as Sunday morning, the front doorbell that hadn’t rung in twenty two years.
If you would like to make a gift in Bill's memory, please consider making it to the staff of the Palliative Care department at Beth Israel who were very kind to us. That decision is yours to make.
