Obituary


Anthony “Tinny” M. Sylvia, 89, of Methuen passed away Thursday September 26th, at the Nevins Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Barrington Rhode Island son of the late Joseph Sylvia of Dracut, MA, and Irene (Larisa) Sylvia of Barrington, RI and was raised and educated in Barrington, RI. Tinny proudly served his country in the US Army for two tours during World War II, stationed in Germany. Tinny was a mail carrier for United States Postal Service for 25 years prior to his retirement and in his free time he enjoyed gardening, singing, golfing, jigsaw puzzles, Red Sox, Patriots, going to Hampton Beach, but most of all being with his family who meant the world to him.



Tinny is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Josephine (Martini) Sylvia, two daughters Joanne Sylvia of Methuen, Maryanne Gagne of Haverhill, three grandchildren Michelle Morales and her husband Herman of Haverhill, Michael Gagne of Methuen, Matthew Gagne and his wife Melissa of Haverhill, seven great-grandchildren Maria, Taylor, Emily, Natalie, Nathan, Sophie, and Sabrina. A brother Arthur Sylvia and his wife Marilyn of Barrington RI, a sister Gloria Mowry of Riverside RI, and a former son in law Norman Gagne and his partner Pat Paar. He was also pre deceased by a brother Karl Sylvia.



Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial Monday September 30th at 9 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church St. Theresa’s Parish in Methuen with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers donations in Tinny’s honor may be made to Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre 10 Ingalls Ct. Methuen MA 01844. Online condolences may be made at www.pollardfuneralhome.com.
