George E. Butler, 80, of New Bedford died September 26, 2013 after a long illness.
He was the husband of Virginia M. (Bassett) Butler.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late George M. and Alice M. (Toomey) Butler, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Butler was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
He was formerly employed by New England Telephone for 30 years before retiring as toll supervisor. In retirement, he worked 17 years at Milhench Supply Company.
Mr. Butler was a devoted husband, family man and friend. He enjoyed spending time at his camp and sharing his love for the great outdoors. Mr. Butler had a passion for wood carving.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Michael Butler and his fiancée Lesa Stewart and Christopher P. Butler and his girlfriend Diane Golden; 2 daughters, Jo-Anne Butler and Susan A. DesMarais and her husband Mark; a brother, Edmund A. Butler; 2 grandchildren, Tessa and Jason DesMarais; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, September 30th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, September 29th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Lawrence Church, 110 Summer St., New Bedford MA 02740.
