AUBURN; Clarence L. Smith, Jr. 91, most recently of The Lodge on Eddy Pond, 669 Washington St., died peacefully, Friday, Sept. 20 at his son’s home in Danielson, Ct.
He was the husband of Mary (Sanderson) Smith who died in 2012. He leaves a son David A. Smith and his wife Carole of Danielson, three grandchildren Dawn M. Grassi and her husband Joseph of Cambridge, Stephen R. Smith and his wife Natalie of Paxton and Amy L. Smith of Danielson, 10 great grandchildren Anthony & Stephanie Grassi, Jordan, Megan & Addison Smith, Abigail & Jon-Patrick Scott, Haley, Rachel & Russell Farnsworth, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother George W. Smith and a sister Bessie Smith.
Clarence was a truck driver for 30 years, working for Paul Dubrey trucking and most recently Red Star before retiring in 1984.
Born in Warren, he was the son of Clarence L. and Gracie (Rice) Smith, Sr. and lived in No. Attleboro, Leicester and Zephyrhills, Fl. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marine during WWII.
He was a Past Master & Life member of the Spencer Lodge of Masons AF & AM, the Aletha Grotto Shriners in Worcester, and Chapter Advisor of the Spencer Order of DeMolay. He was a former member of the Leicester Federated Church where he was a longtime Deacon.
A Memorial Service for Clarence will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Leicester, 2 Washburn Sq., Leicester. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester is directing arrangements for the family.
