SULLIVAN, Bernard L.- Of Peabody, formerly of Chelsea, September 20th. Devoted son of the late former Chelsea Mayor Bernard L. and Grace (Delano) Sullivan. Brother of the late Grace Hanson, former Chelsea Assessor John Sullivan and Robert Sullivan. Cherished uncle of Sister Claire Hanson, SP of Stoneham, Patricia Elder of Chelsea, Barbara Sullivan of Maine, Christine Bishop of Stoneham, John Sullivan of Wellesley, Paula Dalis of Stoneham, Regina Work of Dennis, Robert Sullivan, Jr. of Dracut, Kathleen Maihack of Wakefield and the late Aileen Robblee. Also lovingly survived by his sisters-in-law, Louise Sullivan of Dennis, Elaine Sullivan of Stoneham as well as many grand nieces and nephews. Family and firnds are kindly invited to attend a Funeral from the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washinton Avenue, CHELSEA on Monday, September 23rd at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel on the campus of the Chelsea Soldiers Home, 91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea at 10 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-7 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
Born in Chelsea and a graduate of the Holy Cross College Class of 1951, Bernard, at 86 years of age, passed away peacefully at the Cohen Florence Levine Estates Friday morning after a long illness. A Navy World War II veteran, who served aboard the USS Burias and USS Cascade and received the World War II Victory Medal as well as the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. After returning from active service and receiving his degree from Holy Cross, he began his teaching career until retirement teaching Science at Everett High School. He will always be remembered as great piano player and a wonderfull teacher and uncle.
