Ledyard - Thomas John McGovern of Ledyard passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 14, 2013. He was born on May 14, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Patrick and Katherine (Fullerton) McGovern.
He is survived by Nina (Pierno) McGovern, his wife of 46 years; his two sons, Michael McGovern of Guilford, and Anthony McGovern of Granby, and their families including four grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Frances (McGovern) Cella, Alice (McGovern) Manning, Michael McGovern, and Anne (McGovern) Coppersmith.
Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a dedicated employee of Pfizer, Inc., where he proudly worked as an electrician for 39 years. He began his Pfizer career in Brooklyn, N.Y., and relocated in 1983, to work in Groton, moving his family from the city to "the country". He was a lifelong learner of his trade and an avid reader and student of history, military, and political subjects.
A service celebrating Thomas' life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic.The family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be considered in Thomas' memory to either the Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut (Norwich) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis, TN).
