Clevenger, Redmond L. CDR, USN (Ret.) of South Boston, formerly of Persia, IA, and Hallowell, KS died peacefully on Sept. 16, 2013. Beloved husband of Mary Ann (Hambacher) Clevenger who pre-deceased him in July 2012. Loving father of Robin and her husband Milton of St. Cloud, FL, Eleanora and her husband Kenneth of Stoneham, MA, Ivy and her husband Shahin M. Shahin of Boxford, MA and Redmond Jr. and his wife Kaori Clevenger of Wallingford, PA. Devoted brother of his late sister Neva and her late husband Chris George of Olathe, KS, his late sister Joyce and Pete Tyree of Idaho, his late sister Vinita and her late husband Henry Allen of Columbus, KS, Shirley and her husband Raymond Griffitt of Columbus, KS, his late sister Erma and her husband William Sam Thompson of Olathe, KS, and his brother William A. Clevenger III of Welles, KS. Loving grandfather of Leonard Downes III, Michael Gray, Christine Gray, Camille Hawley, Andrea Ramsey, Marisa Lucca, Jordan Lucca, Mary Lynn (Ames) Correa, Kimberly Ames, Jennifer (Stubblefield) Herroux, Khalid Shahin, Jameelah Shahin, Sami Shahin, Mariam Shahin, Lena Shahin, Sharif Shahin, Sumire Clevenger, Redmond Clevenger III, and Katsuki Clevenger. Doting great-grandfather of seven. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Naval Academy graduate Class of 1957; 27 years of service in the US Navy. Thirty year employee of Marine Systems Corp. Past Commander of the Thomas Fitzgerald VFW Post #561. Past Commander of the Greater Boston Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars. Active member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts. Member of The Wardroom Club. Member of several professional societies and patriotic organizations.
Visiting hours will be held at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street, SOUTH BOSTON on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Gate of Heaven Church on Friday at 10 AM. Interment at MA National Cemetery in Bourne at 12:45 PM.
