CAROLYN (STODDARD) CLEMENT, of Hanover, formerly of Duxbury and Hingham, passed away on Friday, Sept. 13th, 2013 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth at the age of 82. She was the wife for 57 years of Alexander M. Clement and mother of: Leslie and her husband the Rev. Robert Malm of Alexandria, VA, Robert and his wife Carolyn Clement of Norwell and Kirk Clement of Westborough. Also survived by 7 grandchildren; Christopher, Jessica, Lindsey and James Malm, Alex, Kayla and Kat Clement.
Mrs. Clement attended Newton High School and Katherine Gibbs. She worked for a time at the Academy of Arts and Science, then as secretary to the New England manager of Kemper Insurance where she met her husband. Books were important to her and after her marriage she became secretary to the librarian of Harvard College at the Widener Library. While there she attended Harvard Extension School and achieved her Associates Degree in English.
She was also an avid gardener, an enthusiastic musician and lover of the arts. She and her husband were active participants in the Chorus Pro Musica of Boston and the Fine Arts Chorale. Mrs. Clement was also a regular member of her church choir. She enjoyed her trips to Europe, Canada, trips out West and particularly loved the Sunapee area in New Hampshire where she spent many summers. Her faith was important to her and regular Bible study was part of her daily activity.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 21st at 11 AM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 172 Main St., Hingham. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Friday, Sept. 20th from 4-8 PM. The interment in the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne is to be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory would be appreciated to the American Liver Foundation, 88 Winchester St., Newton, MA 02461.
