Obituary

Bertrand Cote, 79 of Salem, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Aviv Center for Living in Peabody following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Rachel M. (Ouellette) Cote with whom he had shared 54 years of marriage.

Born and raised in St. Charles, PQ, he was the son of the late Xavier and Delvina (Gallant) Cote. Married to Rachel in 1955, he and his young family moved to Salem in the early 1960s. Bert was employed as a cutting room supervisor for Evans Shoe Manufacturers in Wakefield. He left Evans to work as the head of maintenance for the Kernwood Country Club in Salem.

Bert was a loyal member of the Richelieu Club of Salem. Over the years he held many offices in the club and was the recipient of several awards including the Man of the Year Award. Bert was the acknowledged ‘first chef’ for many of the club’s gastronomical fundraising events. Always willing to help out anyone, he was a true gentleman.

He is survived by two sons, Bertrand R. Cote of Milford and Antoine J. Cote and his wife Anita M. of Salem, and grandchildren, Adam Cote and his wife Danielle, Jocelyn Mickewicz and her husband Peter, Jaclyn Lucas and her husband Reese and Robert Cote. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Conrad, Yvon, Wilfred Cote & Gemma Cote , Jean Guy, Gaetan, Gaston, Leonard & Paul Beaulieu and Jocelyne Savard all of Canada, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Cote and a sister, Murielle.

Bert’s family wishes to thank the staff of Aviv Center for Living and Hospice of the North Shore for the outstanding care and support in caring for their father.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 8:45 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10:30 A.M. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be private.
