Dorothy Ainley (Duffy) Barrett, 84, of Bedford, NH, formerly of Alexandria, VA passed away September 11, 2013 at her residence with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Manchester, NH on July 12, 1929, the daughter of John A. and Mary (Reardon) Duffy. She attended St. Joseph High School for Girls and earned her bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of New Hampshire.
Prior to retirement, Dorothy had worked as a manager and technical librarian for CSC for 28 years. Previously, she had worked as a librarian at Mary Washington College and UNH.
Dorothy loved to read and was an excellent pianist. Above all else, she will be remembered as a classy woman who always treated others with the utmost respect and dignity.
She was predeceased by her husband Howard L. Barrett Jr. in March of this year.
Family members include her daughters, Elinor Barrett Shemeld and husband Robert of Bedford, NH, Alison Baughman of Boise, ID; one son, Howard L. Barrett III of Bedford, NH; grandchildren, Emily Witucki of Columbia, MD and Bradley Witucki of Alexandria, VA; one brother, John Duffy of Manchester; two sisters, Patricia Warren of Reading, NH, Mary Klimek of Virginia; nephews, nieces and cousins.
Services were private. Memorial donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1503 Michaels Road, Henrico, VA 23229.
