Obituary

CUDD, George Benjamin of Dedham, September 14, 2013, at nearly 95 years of age, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Tangney) Cudd of 54 years. Devoted father of Diane Capodilupo and her husband Peter of West Roxbury, Karen Dowd and her husband Stephen of Beverly, George Benjamin Cudd Jr. and his wife Martha of Tall Timbers MD, Robert Cudd of Dedham, William Cudd of Dedham, and Joanne Massey and her husband Robert of Chelmsford. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, Peter Capodilupo Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Craig Capodilupo and his wife Elizabeth, Carolyn (Dowd) Bryce Morris and her husband Edward, Christina (Capodilupo) Schwefel and her husband Harry, George Benjamin Cudd III and his wife Sonia, Jennifer (Dowd) Zeilman and her husband Andrew, David Cudd and his wife Mary Beth, Christopher Dowd, Kathleen Massey, John Cudd, Allison Massey, and Robert Massey Jr. He was predeceased by grandson Stephen P. Dowd Jr. He also leaves 12 great grandchildren, Caterina, Peter, Harry, Juliet, Sophia, Isabella, Margot, Julia, Henry, Jake, Annie, and Aaron.

Born in Chesnee, South Carolina on October 14, 1918 to the late Cletus and Louise (Hicks) Cudd, he was the oldest of five children. He leaves brother Gerald Cudd of South Carolina and sister Gwen (Cudd) Duarte of North Carolina. He was predeceased by brothers Byron and Berryman. George graduated Chesnee High School, where he was president of his class. He attended Furman College and George Washington University, where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1950. A World War II veteran, George was Chief Electronic Technician in the Coast Guard and then the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bighorn. He spent 30 years in the Dept. of the Air Force as a civil servant at Hanscom AFB. In retirement, George turned his attention to residential real estate and other entrepreneurial ventures. Resident of Dedham, MA, since 1959. Avid reader and lifelong learner, George valued education and hard work. His vast family was his greatest source of pride and his greatest legacy.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St. DEDHAM, Tuesday, September 17 at 10 am. Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Dedham at 11 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Monday, September 16 from 4-8 pm. Interment Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
