Obituary

THE VILLAGES, FL: Ilene M. (Scott) Courtney Millstein, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at her daughter’s home in East Kingston, NH. Ilene married her childhood sweetheart, the late Bernard J. Courtney and they made their home in Groveland. She later married Steven Millstein who preceded her in death. They resided in N. Reading and The Villages in Florida. They enjoyed traveling and had many good times together.
Born in Holden, MA, she spent the first ten years of her life in Barre, MA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Marion (Harty) Scott and stepdaughter of Ivy Walker Scott. Ilene was a direct descendent of Richard Warren of the Mayflower. She was also a daughter of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, where she was chosen the most beautiful girl in the senior class. She was also a graduate of the McIntosh Business School. She was once employed at the former Western Electric in N. Andover and Parlex in Methuen for several years.
Ilene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and our best friend. She was the shining star that brightened the hearts of all that had the opportunity to know her. She was a fantastic dancer and enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her loving children, Scott Courtney and his partner, David Sweeney of Lynnfield, Cari Birkhauser and her husband, Paul of Groveland, Kelly Campano and her husband, Michael of East Kingston, NH, Joseph Courtney of Florida, Ilene Kozdra and her husband, Ken of Groveland and Bunny Courtney of Tampa, FL; twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Carpentier and her husband, Richard of Lowell; son-in-law, Randall Buturlia of N. Andover; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Stanley of Bradford; brother-in-law, Thomas Courtney and his wife, Barbara of Haverhill; beloved uncle and aunt, Thomas and Joan Harty and beloved aunt and uncle Fay and Bill Smith all of Barre, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Gayle Buturlia.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. Patrick’s Church, Groveland at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem St., Bradford from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in Riverview Cemetery, Groveland.
