GALES FERRY, CT-Robert F. Shannon, 73 of 26 Patricia Court formerly of Worcester, MA died Wednesday, March 13th in his home after an illness. He leaves his brother Paul E. Shannon, D.M.D and several cousins.
He was born in Worcester the son of Dr. Timothy M. and Agnes G. (Meehan) Shannon and lived in Gales Ferry for many years. He was a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1950 and earned his Masters Degree there in 1951. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Shannon had been a chemical engineer for Pfizer Company in Groton, CT for many years before retiring. He was a timpanist for the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra in New London, CT for 37 years, served as President of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony for 7 years and as a board member of the Thames Valley Music School.
The funeral will be held Thursday, March 21st from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Paul’s Cathedral, 15 Chatham Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 until 9:30 the morning of the funeral. Please omit flowers and make contributions to either the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, State Street, New London, CT or to Opera Worcester, 10 Winthrop Street, Worcester, MA.
