In Boston, September 11, 2013 Nelson W. Sherman Jr. Age 83 passed away suddenly by accident in Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is survived by his wife Jean (Eames) Sherman of Taunton. Nelson was born in Lakeville, the son of the late Nelson Sherman Sr. & Ethelyn M. Pittsley Sherman Bissonette. Nelson has resided in Taunton since 1951 and was formerly of Middleboro and Lakeville. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. A graduate of Northeastern University, Nelson worked as an industrial engineer for the Samara Lighting Co. in Fall River and later was the owner of the Manger Christian Book Store in the Whittenton section of Taunton. Nelson was the founder and president of the Herring Runners Camping Group in Taunton. He was an active member of the Winthrop St. Baptist Church in Taunton, where he was the choir director and a deacon. Nelson also was a former member of the Bow Harrars Barbershop Quartet. Above all he cherished his time with his family and many close friends. Nelson is survived by his son Stephen Sherman Sr. and his wife Kim of Taunton. His siblings Roberta Perry of Dighton, Helene O’Neil of Bourne and Arnold Sherman of Taunton. Nelson leaves his grandchildren Stephen Sherman Jr. and his wife Kristyne of Taunton and Lindsay Maltais and her husband James of Taunton and his great grandchildren Brinsley Rose Sherman and Brayson Richard Sherman of Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, Sept. 16th from 4-7 pm. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Ma 02780 Funeral and Burial will be private at the request of the family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21st at 11 am. at the Winthrop St. Baptist Church in Taunton to which all are invited.
