Stephen J. Monahan, 78, formerly of Derry, NH died September 10, 2013 in Salemhaven Nursing Home, Salem, NH. Mr. Monahan was born in Boston, MA on August 21, 1935, a son of the late James and Mary (Reid) Monahan. He had resided in Derry for 20 years, formerly living in Roslindale, MA for many years. He retired from Spry & Co. movers after 40 years of employment. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #25 of Charlestown, MA, the Halcyon Club and VFW Post #1617, both of Derry.
He is survived by his daughter, Eileen Coyle and her husband Michael of Hull, MA, his son, Stephen Monahan and his wife Debbie of Hull, his granddaughter, Kayla Monahan of Weymouth, MA. He is also survived by several brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Noyes) Monahan in 2009.
Following cremation, a memorial gathering will be held on Saturday September 14, 2013 from 3 – 6pm in the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beacon Hospice, 529 Main St., #101, Boston, MA 02129.
