Jonathan Smith, 79, of Salem, NH, died Monday at Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH.
He was born in Alma, Arkansas, grew up and attended schools in Mountainburg, Arkansas. He was a resident of Salem for the past 48 years, formerly of Pelham, NH. He was a US Army veteran.
Mr. Smith was a retired systems engineer for Lucent Technologies in North Andover, MA. He was a very active member of the Tenney Methodist Church in Salem. He was a former tutor for the Lahey School in Lawrence, MA, for many years. He was a volunteer for the Salem and Lawrence Historical Society, the Kelley Library in Salem, and the Salem, NH Food Bank.
He was predeceased by his wife Marianne B. (Will) Smith.

Son: Wally and his wife Susan Smith of Chester, NH
Brother: Silver Smith of California
Sister: Maxine Smith of Colorado
Grandchildren: Janelle, Devan, Arianna, William, Jeffrey Jr., and Samantha
Great Grandchildren: Daija, Myniah, Lukas “Isaiah”, and Lenix

Calling hours will be Friday, Sept. 13th from 4-7 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 14th at 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
