Shirley M. Coley, 77, of Ocilla, died Monday, September 9, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in Adel from an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Irwin County, with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Ms. Coley was born August 8, 1936, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Claud and Mary Lou Williams McNeill. She was a 1954 graduate of Irwin County High School and attended South Georgia College in Douglas. She was a receptionist for nearly 50 years for Meeks, Roberts, Ashley, Sumner, and Sirmans in Ocilla. She formerly worked at Hybernia’s and Polly’s and she loved to dance. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two daughters: Darlene & Randy Hancock of Adel and Dee Harper of Lyons; six grandchildren: Brandon Harper, Tyce Hancock, Nicole Hancock, Sara Harper, Leslie Harper Taylor & Wayne E. Taylor, III and Kristin Harper; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Carroll McNeill.
