Obituary

Roland L. Piette Sr, 100, died September 8, 2013 in the Ballou Home. Mr. Piette had been a resident of Slatersville for ninety six years on Providence Pike. He was born in Millbury, MA, a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Daigle) Piette. He was the husband of the late Annette (Milliard) Piette to whom he had been married for sixty one years.

In World War II, he served in the Army in the Twelfth Armored Division, crossing France and Germany.

Roland was a 1948 graduate of the Waltham School of Watchmaking and a 1956 graduate of the Gemological Institute of America. In 1954, he established Piette Jewelers with his wife, working as a watchmaker and jeweler in Woonsocket. As a local business man, he had been involved with several service organizations over the years.

He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, creating beautiful floral gardens at his home, working especially with roses. His other interests were fishing and bowling with his grandsons as well as caring for his dogs which he adopted from local shelters. He was considered a mild, gentle man by those who knew him.

He is survived by his son Roland Piette Jr. and his wife Rita of Wrentham MA and two grandsons, Ryan Piette of Woonsocket and Ross Piette and his wife Jennifer of Bellingham. He was predeceased his siblings Romeo, Normand, Rosario, Rosaire and Ronald Piette and Oriana Boudreau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church Street, Slatersville. Burial, with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Ballou Home, 60 Mendon Road, Woonsocket.
