Worcester—Rev. Werner Berge, 77, of Timrod Dr. died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at home. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Patricia D. (Doyle) Berge; a son, Timothy W. Berge and his wife, Suzan, of S. Kingston, RI; a daughter, Donna Lee Cascone and her husband, Robert; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Kurt Berge of Menominee, MI.
Rev. Berge was born in Painesdale, MI, son of Karl and Emma (Eikel) Berge and resided in Worcester since 1974. He was a graduate of Barrington College and ordained into the ministry in 1956. He was a pastor of West Kingston Baptist Church, West Kingston, RI; Clinton Baptist Church, Clinton, ME; Boulevard Baptist Church, W. Hartford, CT; Pleasant Baptist Church of Worcester; First Alliance Church of Worcester; and was interim pastor for Grace Baptist Church of Worcester. Rev. Berge also worked for the VNA as a Home Health Aide. He was a faithful pastor and wanted to continue his life’s calling to the very end. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict.
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10, with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Grace Baptist Church, 52 Harlem St. Calling Hours will be held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 9, in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street.
