Maher, Roy A. 78, of Plymouth formerly of Chelsea died at the Veterans Hospital in West Roxbury on September 5. Father of Roy A. Maher Jr. and his wife Denise of Plymouth, Robert Maher of Peabody, and the late Katherine Maher. Brother of Elaine Maher of Peabody and the late Marlene Bush, Michael and Donald Maher. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Roy was born in Boston the son of Michael and Elsie (Dobbins) Maher; he grew up in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School. Roy joined the navy and served during the Korean Conflict on board the USS Henry W. Tucker. Roy attended Bentley College and was a self employed businessman he owned World meat Exports Corp. in Somerville. The last years of Roy’s career he worked for the Dept. of Employment as a Customer Service Specialist at the Plymouth Career Center where he had many friends. He was a member of the VFW and was an avid fisherman. All funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in Roy’s memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project P.O.
