Obituary

PETER STUART SCHOLL, a Boston banker and former stockbroker, died Tuesday, Sept. 7th at his home in Hingham. Scholl, 59, had been diagnosed with melanoma cancer three years earlier. Scholl earned a living in finance, but he devoted almost all of his free time to the creative arts. He was an accomplished amateur musician, actor, artist and designer. He played the twelve-string guitar, banjo and organ, performed on the piano and was a vocalist with the Al Alessi Band in New England. Paintings that he didn't give away to family and friends he exhibited in small galleries in Boston and in Key West, FL. He was a member of the ensemble cast at The Company Theatre, a regional theater in Norwell. In the Company Theatre's 2002-03 season, Scholl celebrated his 100th performance as Jacob Marley's ghost in the Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol." He starred as the artist Norman rockwell in the Company Theatre's original production, "Gloryland," and as George Hay in Ken Ludwig's comedy, "Moon Over Buffalo." Scholl grew up in Alexandria, VA where he played on the tennis team for the Belle Haven Country Club. After auditioning at age nine, he was accepted into the boys' choir at St. Thomas Choir School in New York City. In addition to performing at the Fifth Avenue Church, the choir sang in performances under the direction of some of the world's leading conductors, including Leonard Bernstein and Eugene Ormandy. He attended high school at the Taft School in Watertown, CT, Groveton High School in Alexandria, VA and graduated from Canterbury School in Accokeek, MD. He studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France and the University of Pittsburgh. At the time of his death, Scholl was in private wealth management at Sovereign Bank in Boston. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Locke Scholl, and his stepdaughter, Isabel Ortigoza of Hingham. He also leaves his brother, Anthony Scholl of Wilton, CT; and his sisters, Jaye Scholl Bohlen of Glendale, CA and Alexandra Young of Norwell, as well as many nieces and nephews. His brother Nicholas Sargent Scholl, died on June 12, 2004. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, Sept. 12th at 12 Noon at his home at 20 Cross St., Hingham. The interment is to be private.
