Ruth Hester Clemons, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Heritage Health Care in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Friday, September 6, 2013, at Evergreen Cemetery with Bro. Gerald Ball officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
Mrs. Clemons was born September 29, 1928, in Colquitt County, Georgia to the late Robert & Maggie Boyd Hester. She was a homemaker and lived in the community most of her life. She was very involved in her children’s school lives by helping in the schools, volunteering with the PTA and attending ball games. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she held many offices. She was well known for her dressing and chocolate cakes at many Masonic functions. She was a Sunday school teacher at the former Callie Garbutt Baptist Church and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Jimmy Ray & Lisa Clemons of Navarro, Florida, Barbara Tucker of Fitzgerald, Ronnie & Peggy Clemons of Fitzgerald, Lynn McCollum of Sylvester, Bill & Donna Clemons of Macon and Rodney & Wilma Clemons of Fitzgerald; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James Clemons; six brothers; and two sisters.
