Obituary

CORYELL, FRANK, 74, of Louisville, passed away September 3, 2013. Mr. Coryell was a Louisville attorney practicing civil and criminal defense law for more than 45 years. He also served as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in the 1970's. He was a 1956 graduate of duPont Manual High School and graduated with bachelor and law degrees from the University of Louisville, where he lettered in track. He was an avid Cardinal Fan. He was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts and served as Scoutmaster for troops 195, 38 and 65. He was also a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow (Zit Kala Sha), and recipient of the Silver Beaver and Good Shepherd awards. As a 12 year old, he was the youngest Louisvillian to become an Eagle Scout and is the second of three generations to receive that honor. Frank was an active member of the Masonic Order, serving as past master of the Suburban Lodge 740, member of the Suburban Social Club, KCCH 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, York Rite Mason and Knight Templar. Other activities include serving as president of the downtown Kiwanis Club of Louisville, president of the Hemophilia Foundation and membership in Delta Theta Pi. Frank was also a member of the Louisville Wheelmen and Southern Indiana Wheelmen. Frank's faith was central to his life. He served as deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Beechmont Baptist Church and was a member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist church at the time of his death. Mr. Coryell was preceded in death by his parents, C.E. ("Red") and Mary Louise; and sister, Judy Bishoff. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Linda; daughter Renette Jones (Rick) and son, Corky (Sallie). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kristen Thoni (Pete), Kayla Adams (Jacob), Kassie Jones, Lynn, Hannah and Sam Coryell; as well as nieces, Tonya Bishoff-Becerra and Noel Edwards. Frank will always be remembered for his commitment to making Louisville a better place to live whether as a public servant, church leader, scout leader, or active member of a civic organization. But his greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He watched as they grew into responsible adults with lives that took them to courtrooms, classrooms, athletic fields and the deserts of North Africa. He spent many happy hours watching Manual High School cheerleading, field hockey, basketball and baseball. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 4, 2013 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2013 at Owen Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made in his name to the duPont Manual High School Alumni Scholarship Fund or Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. The family would like to personally thank the third floor ICU staff of Norton Brownsboro Hospital for its care and compassion during this difficult time.
