Johnnie B. Gibbs, 72, of Nichols, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Twin Oaks Convalescent Center, Alma, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, September 9, 2004, at Salem Cemetery, Ben Hill County, with Rev. Tommy Land, Jr., and Rev. J.A. Clements officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 until 2:30, Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Gibbs was born January 3, 1932, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Wesley and Bertha Lee Palmer Gibbs. He lived most of his life in Ben Hill County and for the past three years he lived in Nichols. Mr. Gibbs was a retired farmer and a former employee of Harper Motor Line in Fitzgerald. He was a former recipient of the Ben Hill County Young Farmer Award. Mr. Gibbs was a member of Salem Baptist Church, Ben Hill County. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife: Alice C. Gibbs, Nicholls; one son: Johnnie B. “Jay” Gibbs, Alma; one daughter-in-law: Angie Gibbs, Nicholls; three grandchildren: Vickkie Kitchens, Kristie Smith and Jackie Fred Smith, all of Nicholls; three great-grandchildren: Dustin, Chad and Jessica Kitchens, all of Nicholls; four sisters: Evelyn Mays, Peggy Griffin, Minnie Gibbs, and Betty Gibbs, all of Ben Hill County.
