CHICOPEE – Louis M. “Louie” Bouchard, 77, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Monday, September 2, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at UMASS Memorial Health Care in Worcester surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family who were his wonderful caregivers. He was born at home on the family farm in Saint Raphael de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, Canada on June 6, 1936, a beloved son of the late Ulric and Diana (Carbonneau) Bouchard. He was raised in Saint Raphael, Canada, attended local schools and lived there for many years. In 1955, he relocated to the North End section of Springfield with many of the French Canadian families. He later lived in Holyoke and then returned to Springfield before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1964. True to his French Canadian Heritage, Louis was a Master Craftsman, General Contractor, Home Builder and was the owner of L. B. Construction Company and the Polar Quality Window Company, both in Chicopee. He was an avid hockey player and a member of the Holyoke Blades Hockey League. He was the owner in the 1970’s of the Pioneer Valley Skating Rink in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and the longtime sponsor of the Western Mass Pioneers Junior B Hockey Team. Louie was a hard working family man with a quick wit and a great sense of humor who always provided for his family. Each morning, Louie spent time with his loving dog Mia and his cat Cala. After spending time with his pets, he would meet up with his friends for coffee, conversation and many good times at McDonald’s on Meadow Street in Chicopee. On Sundays, he would enjoy coffee and donuts after Mass at Sainte Rose de Lima Church. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Lorraine A. (Houle) Bouchard who was Called Home on September 26, 2010. They were married on September 3, 1956 at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with 54 years of happiness together. He leaves his devoted children, Denise M. Fraska Bailly and her husband, Daniel Bailly, of Chicopee, Suzanne M. Badger and her partner, Walter Pietryka, of Holyoke, Daniel L. Bouchard and his fiancée, Anita Seidnitzer, of Chicopee, Paul L. Bouchard of Pittsfield, MA, Jacqueline M. Rooney and her husband, James, of Middlefield, MA, Nancy M. Spencer and her husband, Dean, of Montgomery, MA, Renee M. Bouchard, Joseph P. Bouchard, and Amy M. Bouchard, all of Chicopee; his 12 cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey, David and Justin Fraska, Natalie Pope and her husband, Jon, Jessica Cheiniere, Kelly Bouchard, Brian Dyjack, Ashley, Kendall and Jonathan Rooney, Kyle Spencer and his fiancée, Kaila Arsenault, and Tara Spencer; his 12 cherished great-grandchildren; his dear brother, Leonard Bouchard and his wife, Lise, of Saint Raphael, Canada; his dear sisters, Lucille Coulombe of Granby, MA, Jeanine Shlapak, Yolande Bouchard, and Marie-Paul Klus, all of Quebec, Canada; his dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Bouchard family, Rene Carriere, Jean-Marie Fournier, Bernadette Bouchard, Olivette Bouchard and Therese Bouchard; his dear brothers-in-law and sister-in-law of the Houle family, Roger Houle and his wife, Betty Sue, Leonard Houle and his wife, Constance and Yvette Choquette and her husband, Henry; and his many dear nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his dear brothers and sisters, Maurrile Bouchard, Raymond Bouchard, Egide Bouchard, Gislaine Girard, Therese Carriere, Nicole Fournier and Jeanne D’Arc Bernard; his dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Bouchard family, Leo Coulombe, Victor Shlapak, Fred Klus, Madeline Bouchard, Ferdinand Girard and Raymond Bernard; and his dear brothers-in-law and sister-in-law of the Houle family, Gerald Houle and his wife, Marlene and Emilienne Houle. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning, September 7, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
