Michael Barry Stevens, 62, of New Bedford died peacefully at home on Friday August 30, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Renee A. (Pinto) Stevens.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late William B. and Rita (Pinto) Stevens.
Mr. Stevens was formerly employed as the Assistant Administrative Director for the Mass. Highway Department until his retirement. He had been a counselor at F.L. Chamberlain School in Middleboro for the past six years.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Southeastern Massachusetts University. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Stevens was a former member of the 9-18 Golf Club. An avid sports fan, he loved the New York Giants and New York Yankees.
He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family and friends very much.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Tara N. Stevens, Erin M. Stevens and her companion Drew Pimentel, Sr., and Keri L. Stevens, all of New Bedford; two sisters, Kathleen "Kitty" Stevens of Truro and Barbara Stevens of Provincetown; a granddaughter, Ayla-Lynn Pimentel; his very special niece, Karen Stevens; his very special nephew, Marc Stevens; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was the grandfather of the late Drew Thomas Pimentel, Jr., and brother of the late Richard Stevens, Bruce Stevens, William B. Stevens, Jr., and Robert Stevens.
His visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 5, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. At his request, cremation will follow. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
