LAWRENCE - Josephine T. Shine, 99 of Lawrence, MA passed away on Sunday August 18, 2013 at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Josephine was born in Lawrence and attended local schools. As a young woman, she grew up on a small farm which she loved in Methuen; loved the
Model T. Ford with a rumble seat she bought when she was eighteen; worked in the drawing room in numerous woolen mills; but was most proud of her work as an electronic board assembler at Western Electric in North Andover for more than twenty years.
Above all, Josephine loved her family and was a devoted wife and mother. She educated her children and provided them a beautiful home. A Lithuanian, she possessed an indomitable strength of character; an incredible capacity for work; a wisdom that easily discerned character or lack thereof; a spontaneous ability to articulate what was good, right, and fair in any circumstance; and had a natural, generous giving nature which contributed to and enriched the lives of every member of her family and all those who knew her. In every way her life fulfilled the solemn, deathbed promise she made to her mother, who died when she was five years old, to "Always be Good". She was an avid reader, loved the ocean and her summers at the beach, a good laugh. tennis, movies, food of every kind and found joy in everything beautiful and true.
She was predeceased by her husband Daniel J. Shine and is survived by her three children, Barbara A. Shine of Lawrence, Richard A. Shine of Salisbury and Daniel J. Shine and his wife Susan of Methuen and former wife Marguerite of Chelmsford. Also, grandchildren, Karen, Kimberly, Daniel and Kevin and numerous great-grandchildren. Josephine was also the grandmother of her late grandson, Eric.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mary Immaculate for the exceptional, compassionate and loving care they provided their mother.
