Mr. Francis G. Scott, age 86, of Woburn passed away peacefully on August 17th, at the Winchester Nursing Center following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Breen) and together they shared 63 years of marriage prior to her death in May of 2011.
"Scotty" as he was affectionately known to his family and friends was born and raised in New York. He was one of five children of the late William F. and Hilda V. (Pennell) Scott. He enlisted in the United States Navy in September of 1944 and proudly served during WWII until his honorable discharge in July of 1946. It was during his time in the Navy that Scotty met his bride to be at a USO event in Boston.
Scotty and his wife eventually settled in Woburn in the early 1960's, where they raised their children. He retired from the New England Telephone Co. after 42 years as a dedicated employee. Together with his wife they enjoyed spending many winters in Naples , FL and over the years were fortunate to have travel together on many memorable trips. Known for his quiet and pleasing nature, Scotty will always be remembered as a perfect gentleman. In his leisure time he loved playing golf, he was an avid walker and could always be seen walking on Main St., Lowell St., and in the Central Square area. He also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles "always with a pen not pencil", and was a real handyman who liked to keep busy at his home tinkering around, fixing anything that needed repair.
In addition to his wife, Scotty is predeceased by his son, Thomas Scott, his grandson, Brian Simpson, and brother, Alan Scott.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Wright and her husband Robert, Greg Scott and his wife Linda, Patricia Roque and her husband Edward, Erik Scott and his fiancé Lisa Whitney. He was the loving grandfather to Christopher and Jonathan Wright, Caitlin Morris, Jennifer Callahan, Julie Sheehan, John Simpson, Courtney and Brian Roque, Keating Scott, Emerson Waite and the late Brian Simpson. He is also survived by 10 loving great grandchildren. Brother of Marion Hoffner, William and Robert Scott.
A funeral service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Thursday, August 22nd, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4 thru 7 p.m. Services will conclude with military honors and burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Scotty's memory to the Winchester Hospital Foundation, 611 Main St., Winchester, MA 01890.
