Mrs. Lois I. (Bacon) Cavanaugh, a resident of Stoneham since 1998 and formerly of Medford, died at her home on Friday morning, August 16, 2013. Lois is the beloved wife of the late William E. Cavanaugh. She was 96 years old.
Born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on January 2, 1917, she was the beloved daughter of the late Walter and Grace (Whitcom) Bacon. Lois was a Registered Nurse and had worked for the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham until her retirement in 1982 with 55 years of service. During her career, she worked as a Night Supervisor and an Operating Room Director for many years. She was also an avid volunteer to her community. Lois was the oldest member of the 7th Day Adventist Church at the New England Memorial Hospital.
She will be sorely missed by her loving daughter; Lucy E. Allen of Stoneham, grandchildren; Bobby, Lisa and Kevin Allen, great-grandson; Wayne Scuturo, sisters; Alice Velton and Irene Cain, both of Stoneham and several nieces and nephews. She was also the loving mother of the late Tommy Cavanaugh and sister of the late Harvey W. “Buddie” Bacon.
Her funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Sunday, August 18, 2013, at noon. Visitation was held prior to the service from 11 AM to 12. Interment was private.
