Obituary

Paul F. McCarthy age 76 went home to God suddenly surrounded by his loving family on Sunday August 11th. He was born in Brockton, brought up in Holbrook, son of the late Edward McCarthy and Teresa Manley McCarthy. He is survived by his high school sweetheart Elaine Tracey McCarthy of Humarock, sister Grace Comeau of Simsbury CT, of the late Edward McCarthy, children Paul F. McCarthy Jr. of Whitman and dear friend Barbara White, Deborah McCarthy DiBenedetto and husband Joseph of West Peabody and Kevin M. McCarthy and wife Bette of Quincy, grandchildren Alyssa DiBenedetto and fiancé Jesse Castleman, Cassie, Sarah and Mary DiBenedetto of West Peabody, Marc and Kelsey McCarthy of Quincy and many nieces and nephews.
Paul graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in 1954 and attended pipe-fitters apprentice school in Quincy. He served in the United States National Guard for over 3 years and was on active duty at Fort Dix, NJ for 6 months. He played baseball for Archbishop Williams High School and semi pro baseball for the St. Pats of Brockton and the Huskies of Easton and the Cape Cod League and played basketball for St. Joseph’s of Holbrook. He was a 50 year member of the pipe-fitters union and a member of Boston #537. He was a lifetime member of Abington Knights of Columbus. Paul loved all sports, coached Little League for many years. He was Mr. Notre Dame to his friends and family, attended several football games at South Bend and considered himself a proud member of the Notre Dame sub-way alumni. One of his favorite activities was a cup of coffee at Building 19. With his wife of over 53 years he traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, the Alamo and the West Coast of United States but loved his yearly trip to the Florida Keys best of all. He will be remembered as a devout Catholic man - honest, fun loving, hardworking and devoted to his wife, family and friends. He will be missed and forever loved by all whose life he touched.
Visiting hours will be held in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139 in Marshfield on Thursday, August 15 from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth St. in Abington on Friday, August 16 at 9:00 a.m.
Interment in Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.
Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to St. Vincent De Paul St. Christine’s Church, 1295 Main St. Marshfield, MA or St. Vincent De Paul St. Bridget’s Church, 455 Plymouth St., Abington, MA.
