Florence Popolo, a longtime Woburn resident passed away peacefully on August 12th, at the Winchester Hospital following a lengthy period of declining health. She was 97. Born in Boston she was the cherished daughter of the late Louis and Annunciata (Giardullo) Popolo.
Florence was a Woburn resident for many years. Prior to her retirement she worked for the Federal Government at the Boston Army Base and Navy Yard where she was an administrative assistant and held several positions of great responsibility. Throughout her life she was a talented and avid writer. She was broadcast on the local radio program "Short Story Editor Program" speaking about story beginnings and writing style. Florence also enjoyed traveling to Europe and the Islands, spending time with her friends and attending different theater performances and social events. She was also an active member of the Woburn Senior Center for many years.
Along with her late parents, Florence is predeceased by her beloved brother, Ralph J. Popolo. She is survived by her dear family friends, Frances Chaison of Dedham, Julia Wuethrich of Cheshire, CT and Lillian Capozzola of Woburn.
Funeral services were held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, this morning, Wednesday, August 14th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Services concluded with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
